It’s difficult than it sounds to shed off extra pounds. Weight loss pills and programs have flooded the market being self-proclaimed as the ‘most popular’ or the ‘best’ option for this purpose. These hardly live up to their promises once you start using them. In Southeast Asia, Thailand is a destination that performs affordable plastic surgery including body jet liposuction (ดูดไขมัน Body Jet). The surgery can be an effective, safe, and simple alternative if you are not comfortable with invasive surgical fat removal. After having the procedure, it is important to keep the following in mind;
- Keep the incision clean but don’t soak in a pool, bath, or jacuzzi for at least 7 days after surgery
- The patient may do light to moderate physical activities a day after surgery
- Wrap the treated area with a compression bandage snugly and continuously for 6 days to 2 weeks
- Don’t apply a heating pad or icepacks to the areas that have been treated by liposuction
- The patient may take a shower 2 days post-surgery
- Strenuous activities may be gradually resumed 1 month after surgery
Post-operative care instructions
If local anesthesia was used, the patient may resume their usual diet immediately. To prevent dehydration, the patient should drink adequate amounts of fruit juices, water, or soft drinks. The patient should also avoid drinking alcoholic beverages 48 hours before and after the surgery.
The patient should not plan to drive themselves home.
Managing post-op drainage
During the first 24 to 48 hours, the patient should expect a large volume of blood-tinged anesthetic solution to drain from the small incisions. The less swelling and bruising there will be if there is more drainage. Under the compression garments and bulky super-absorbent pads should work by overlying the treated area for the first 24 to 48 hours. Patients need only place absorbent pads over the incision sites that continue to drain after most of the drainage has stopped.
Until the prescription is finished, the patient should take the antibiotics as directed. If you notice signs of infection such as swelling, focal redness, pain, fever, or foul-smelling drainage in the treated area.
First, wash your hands then wash incisions gently with soap and water. Afterward, gently pat dry the incisions with a clean towel and apply new absorbent pads. You no longer need to cover the incision with pads if the incision has ceased draining for more than 24 hours.
For a month or so after body jet liposuction, expect menstrual irregularities. Delayed onset or premature monthly menstruation is a possible side effect.
As part of the normal healing process, itching of the treated areas several days after surgery may occur. Oatmeal soap and Benadryl may help relieve the itching. You may soak in a bath with an oatmeal bath preparation, after the 7th postoperative day, provided that the incisions are well healed.
Fainting and dizziness
The morning after surgery, patients may experience a brief sensation of dizziness, especially after the garments are first removed to take a shower. When standing up too quickly, you may feel lightheaded. It is the result of rapid decompression of the legs after the post-op garments are removed. Dizziness may be prevented by removing the outer compression garment 10 minutes before removing the second garment. However, if dizziness should occur, lie down or sit until it passes.
A super-absorbent pad should absorb all of the drainages when applied properly. Conversely, leaks beyond the pads can occur, therefore, it is advisable to place a plastic sheet beneath the towel when there is a large amount of drainage. When lying or sitting down during the first 36 hours, place absorbent towels beneath you to protect your furniture from any unexpected leak of blood-tinged drainage.
